Auction of chess pieces….

There was an auction held in Sweden this last week of items belonging to the late Swedish Director Ingmar Bergman. One item up for auction were the chess pieces used in his 1957 movie “The Seventh Seal. In this film, Max Von Sydow plays a game of chess with Death.

Despite missing the white King which was broken into pieces during a scene in the film, the set sold for 50 times the amount expected, according to the auction house Bukowski’s. The wood and plaster chessmen sold for $143,000, on of the highest bids in the auction.
