Chess Moves – The Bishop

The Bishop is one of the next most powerful of the chess game pieces – after the Queen and the Rook. The other chess piece at the value of 3 as the Bishop is the Knight which will be covered on a future post.
The Bishop can only move diagonally, which means it wil stay in the same colored square the entire game. This is exactly what makes the Bishop less powerful than the Rook. The Bishop can never capture and opposing piece on a different colored square. Fortunately, the two Bishops for each side begin on opposing colored squares. The Bishop can move any number of spaces but cannot jump pieces.
