Wooden Chess Boards

Wood is the most common and popular material of mid to high-end chess sets. Many chess players prefer wooden sets over sets of other materials because of the natural look and elegant feel. Wooden chess boards are also used for sets that contain pieces made of alternate materials such as glass and wood/metal combinations.
Wooden chess boards and pieces can be made from a large variety of different woods. A couple of the more commonly used woods for chess boards are Boxwood and Golden Rosewood. More expensive and exotic woods include Ebony, Red Sandalwood, and Rosewood. The various possible combinations of woods used make wooden chess boards is vast and because of it naturalness, each board and set is unique.
