Timeless Games

chess-piecesThere are a few timeless games that simply will never go out of style. The characteristic that is crucial, in my opinion, is that the game must require a high level of skill. While there are several variations, poker is one of those social games that people have played for centuries. As the saying goes, “it takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master,” which is one of the main reasons it is so enduring. Even as different games come in and out of the spotlight, cultures from around the world take part in poker almost without exception.

Another one of those lasting games is chess. People spend countless hours perfecting the techniques and moves necessary to confound their opponents. While the game experiences ebbs and flows of popularity, there are many modern applications of the game. One of the most memorable is in Harry Potter, where the chess pieces actually come alive and fight one another.
