Near the end of October 2009, Bank Windhoek gave over 550 chess sets to the Namibian Chess Federation (NFC). These sets were distributed to about 100 schools in the south of Namibia, by the Namibian Schools Sports Union. In 2008, the NFC, with help from Bank Windhoek distributed 1000 chess sets to schools in the northern region and more than 2000 children benefited from this sponsorship.

Riaan van Rooyen, Head of Bamkl Windhoek Corporate Communication and Social Investment said “Chess has proven to improve the cognitive skills of children. Therefore, Bank Windhoek is proud to support this undertaking, as the 550 chess sets given to the NCF today will facilitate improvements in the memory, concentration and time management skills of over 1000 children in many schools in the south”,

The NFC will send Grand Masters around the country to teach and identifying talented children who could further be trained and mentored into Grand Masters to represent Namibia internationally. Players from various schools recently received a bronze medal in a South African competion..

Bank Windhoek is a leading bank in Namibia with great social investment in it’s community and country.
