My son loves to play chess with his grandfather. Whenever I bring them over to their grandparents’ house for the weekend, my son would immediately look for his grandpa for a round of chess while they talk about the things currently going on in their lives. There are instances when I would need to leave them there because of business trips I need to take, and as a single mother I want them to stay in a safe place where they can be attended to very well.
Given my son’s love for this game, I gave him an African animal chess set this Christmas. He got really excited as he opened his present, and immediately showed his grandfather his new toy. They spent the entire day breaking in the chess set, and were busy laughing and joking around while my mother and I prepared lunch for Christmas. This is a happy setting which only happens once a year.
